De junimaand is in Amsterdam, in Nederland, in Europa uitzonderlijk! Om slechts een reden: het Holland Festval vindt plaats.
We gaan al ruim 35 jaar naar het HF en hebben dus alle formules al eens meegemaakt. Wat hetzelfde blijft is dat feestje in juni waarin je altijd iets bijzonders kan meemaken. Over 35 jaar zijn we er waarschijnlijk niet meer, het HF hopelijk wel.
Tijdens het Holland Festival zou ik mezelf wel willen klonen, zodat ik meerdere voorstellingen tegelijk kan zien.
Het Holland Festival brengt ieder jaar weer internationale allure naar Amsterdam, en probeert daar zoveel mogelijk mensen van te laten genieten. Daarom steunt de Turing Foundation al drie jaar lang de klassieke muziekuitvoeringen van het festival.
In juni ga ik nooit met vakantie. Dan reis ik cultureel, in mijn theaterstoel. Bij het HF. Aan het eind van de maand heb ik meer van de wereld gezien.

Le Holland Festival, de par ses choix esthétiques, fait partie d'un réseau indispensable à notre vie culturelle. Il n'a cessé de l'enrichir, de lui donner un sens par des options de haut niveau, audacieuses, aventureuses, traçant notre voie vers le futur tout en sauvegardant ce que le passé nous a laissé en héritage.
Ein Gefühl, dass die Welt auf einen rohen Kern nicht weiter zerlegbarer Begriffe zusammenschrumpft. Dass die Namen der Dinge langsam den Dingen selbst in die Vergessenheit folgen. Farben. Die Namen von Vögeln. Dinge, die man essen konnte. Schließlich die Namen von Dingen, die man für wahr hielt. Wie viel ist schon verschwunden? Das heilige Idiom wird seiner Bezüge und damit seiner Wirklichkeit beraubt. Zieht sich zusammen wie etwas, das Wärme zu halten versucht. Und irgendwann endgültig erlöschen wird.
De opening van het Holland Festival 2006 met mijn opera 'After Life' was een beslissend moment in mijn carriere. Fantastisch dat Pierre Audi jonge makers dit soort kansen geeft!
Het Holland Festival kijkt vooruit, en biedt daarmee een breed beeld van de nieuwste ontwikkelingen in de (podium) kunsten. Het heeft daarin een lange traditie opgebouwd waarvan de belangrijkste eigenschap is dat het daar nooit in berust of vastloopt.
Durant les dernières années, le Holland Festival s’est imposé, sans nul doute, comme un des Festivals les plus importants du monde pour deux raisons essentielles: - En 1er par l’excellence musicale et théâtrale des spectacles présentés et autres activités, en produisant et accueillant les plus grands artistes vivants. Donc un festival moderne. - En 2ème par son approche multidisciplinaire, permettant ainsi des rencontres et des échanges dans des domaines différents, source de créativité. Wandering through the program of this festival it feels as an honor being asked to push new flemish music into the spotlights at this fabulous stage. It felt logical to play also the monumental Shiraz composition by Claude Vivier: its fierce, optimistic believe in the universality of differing cultures by trying to show next to eachother the benefits of it, that seems to me also what this festival is aiming for. The Holland Festival is one of the few festivals that we consider artistically and socially significant. Many festivals tend to lose their relevance to the community they serve. The Holland Festival is well regarded in the international arts community not only for its high quality explorative programming but also its ability to engage the broader community through innovative activities like its Eyefuel, Earfuel and Mindfuel events. The way in which the city is engaged through its comprehensive programming and use of spaces in many ways help define the essence of Amsterdam and Holland to visitors. There are thousands of city festivals. Only a few catch our attention and are appealing enough for us to ensure it stays on our 'radar'. The Holland Festival is one such festival.
Het Holland Festival kan zich meten aan grote internationale podiumkunstenfestivals. Het festival trekt een breed publiek van bezoekers, media en internationale makers en biedt een plek aan vernieuwende podiumkunst. Er is ruimte voor gevestigde makers, maar ook voor jonge talenten. Dat maakt het Holland Festival tot een van de meest prestigieuze Nederlandse festivals en tot een internationale topper.
As an international festival director, I am required to attend festivals the world over and, in my opinion, Holland Festival is amongst the finest. The breadth of artistic genres offered; the programming of works of tremendous innovation, scale and excellence; and the freshness of its vision - all make the Holland Festival an annual 'must-see' for my own explorations. In my view, the Holland Festival annually provides a magnificent guide to the current Zeitgeist in 21st Century arts. I especially believe that under the direction of Pierre Audi the Festival has bloomed into one of the top ten internationally.
