Archive 1981

In 1981, the Holland Festival presented an eclectic programme ranging from clowning and puppet theatre from Hungary and the Netherlands to a series of double bills with the legendary New York venue The Kitchen. Future associate artist Bill T. Jones was involved as a choreographer.

Composer Louis Andriessen was a central figure in the festival, with the Night of Andriessen as a highlight. Another absolute high point was the series The Necessity of, four live VPRO programmes with Freek de Jonge as the host, connecting the topcis and performances. Guests ranged from Peter Schat and Moniek Toebosch to Het Nationale Ballet and Harry Mulisch.
