A Possibility is a unique, almost meditative theatre experience at the intersection of visual art, music, and theater. There is no story. There is no explanation. There are no words. This new theatre work by Dutch artist Germaine Kruip is an experience you undergo in the theatre. You enter the auditorium. The light changes. Very slowly. So slowly that you hardly notice it. And yet something happens. Your eyes adjust. Your breathing slows down. Your mind becomes quieter. What do you see, what do you hear, what happens inside you as you watch?

A Possibility offers an opportunity, a chance to look from the outside in. The performance unfolds in two parts: in the first part, the eye learns to slow down in an empty landscape of light and space. This is followed by a ritual of rhythm and sound, played by four percussionists on specially designed bronze sculptures. During this meditative, sensory journey, the boundary between visual art, music, and theatre fades away and a moment of “nothingness” arises. The feeling of peace after exertion. After a long day at work or a busy week. That moment when it gets dark outside and you sit still for a moment. Nothing else matters. A Possibility hits that spot exactly.

With A Possibility, Germaine Kruip transforms the theater into a place of wonder. She invites you to explore a world of infinite possibilities. This unique theatre experience is presented in collaboration with the PLT and is also coming to Theater Heerlen for the first time. Germaine Kruip created A Possibility on commission from Factory International in Manchester.

A Possibility is commissioned by Commissioned by Factory International, Manchester; Holland Festival and PLT. Produced by Factory International, Manchester.
