The 21-member Ensemble Resonanz bridges the gap between classical and contemporary music and ranks among the world’s leading chamber orchestras. The string ensemble, composed of twenty democratically organized musicians, performs without a permanent conductor and frequently collaborates with guest conductors such as Riccardo Minasi, who serves as ‘Principal Guest Conductor & Partner in Crime’.
They steadily expand their repertoire through collaborations with composers and musicians such as violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaja, violist Tabea Zimmermann, cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras, and stage designer Annette Kurz. Based in Hamburg, Ensemble Resonanz performs at the Elbphilharmonie and the resonanzraum St. Pauli – Europe’s first urban chamber music club, located in a converted World War II bunker. With their concert series urban string, they blend classical music with electronic sound and visuals.
In Hamburg, they are associated with the Elbphilharmonie, where they present the concert series resonanzen, and with the resonanzraum in St. Pauli, Europe’s first urban chamber music club. Here, they host the monthly concert series urban string, collaborating with international DJs and electronic artists. The resonanzraum also offers open rehearsals and lectures. Ensemble Resonanz performs globally and has received numerous awards for their innovative approach.
