Flanders Symphony Orchestra is a Belgian symphony orchestra founded in 1960 in Ghent by Dirk Varendonck, who was also its first conductor. For over six decades, it has championed both classical and contemporary repertoire, fostering opportunities for young musicians, composers, and conductors while engaging diverse audiences across Flanders and beyond.


Led by resident and guest conductors, the orchestra performs widely in Belgium and internationally, having become an established and respected entity in the Flemish cultural landscape. With 60 talented musicians at its core, the ensemble pioneers talent development and artistic innovation, being a space for opportunity and community.
