Gamelan Salukat

Gamelan Salukat is a 25-member ensemble dedicated to the Balinese gamelan tradition, blending traditional instruments with experimental improvisatory practice. It was founded in 2007 by Balinese composer Dewa Alit, a key figure in contemporary Indonesian music, who brought together members who share deep roots in Indonesian performance culture.

Together, they present rich interlocking textures that reconnect ancient ritual sound with present‑day sonic inquiry. Gamelan Salukat refers to both its musicians and the instruments used by the ensemble. Those were specially built to Alit's design using a unique 10-note scale, taking from past and present to present something radically new.
