The Gieskes-Strijbis Performing Arts Award, the biggest performing arts prize in the Netherlands, has been awarded this year to Carolina Bianchi. According to the jury, the Brazil-born theatre maker 'creates work that moves, reflects, and transforms. (…) She is among the greatest artists of our time.' In Bianchi’s work, themes such as (sexual) violence and abuse are interwoven with art history. The award is presented annually to artists who contribute to the diversity of the performing arts in the Netherlands. Bianchi’s impressive production The Brotherhood was one of the highlights of the past edition of the Holland Festival.
