Isabelle Huppert (Paris, 1953) is one of the greatest European film and stage actresses of her generation. She has featured in nearly a hundred films since making her debut in 1972. Huppert made her film debut in Faustine et le bel été in 1972. She soon became one of the busiest and most popular actresses in Europe. Huppert established a reputation for cool and mysteriously detached roles.
She reached a new peak in her film career in 2001 with her role in La Pianiste by Michael Haneke. Huppert started doing theatre at a young age. Even before her film debut, she had been a promising stage actress. She returned to theatre in 1988 and featured in La Ménagerie de verre, directed by Ivo van Hove (ITA), in 2021.
