Mica Levi (born 1987, United Kingdom), also known by their stage name Micachu, is an English musician, composer, producer, singer, and songwriter. They studied composition at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London but left before graduating when their experimental pop band Micachu and the Shapes began to gain recognition. The group’s debut album Jewellery (2009) received critical acclaim, and after several more releases the band renamed itself Good Sad Happy Bad in 2016.
In addition to their band work, Levi has released solo projects and collaborated with artists such as Kwes and Tirzah. Levi made their film music debut with Jonathan Glazer’s Under the Skin (2013), winning the European Film Award for Best Composer and earning a BAFTA nomination. They went on to score Jackie (2016) by Pablo Larraín, for which they received an Academy Award nomination, and The Zone of Interest (2023) by Glazer, which won the Soundtrack Award at the Cannes Film Festival. Other notable scores include Marjorie Prime (2017), Monos (2019), and Steve McQueen’s Small Axe (2020). Levi released their first solo album, Ruff Dog in 2021.
