Saburo Teshigawara

Saburo Teshigawara (1953, Japan) is a choreographer and director celebrated for intense and body-based works. Founder of KARAS Company with Kei Miyata in 1985, his practice blends rigorous physicality with theatricality, influencing contemporary dance in Japan and internationally through landmark productions.
His unique creative career began in 1981 in Tokyo, where he studied plastic arts and classical ballet. Aside from his solo performances and his work with KARAS, Teshigawara has been commissioned by many international ballet companies, such as the Paris Opera, to create repertoire pieces. He is also recurrently involved in education, hosting workshops and acting as a mentor and professor in various projects.
