Stephanie Thiersch

Stephanie Thiersch (1970, Germany) is a German choreographer and director who has been working internationally for over two decades. She is the founder and artistic director of the dance company MOUVOIR, established in Cologne in 2000, and is known for her experimentation with digital formats, her innovative use of music in all its forms, and her focus on socially relevant themes.


Trained in humanities and media art at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne, she develops interdisciplinary works that merge choreography with music, visual art and new media, offering works that are consistently of a hybrid nature. Her productions, created in close collaboration with composers and performers, tour internationally and have received honours including the German Dance Film Prize and the Cologne Dance Award. Since 2011, her practice has also focused on cross-cultural projects addressing postcolonial perspectives. Thiersch has taught at major German institutions and was a member of the Franco-German Cultural Council.
