Tanya Selvaratnam (Colombo, Sri Lanka, 1971) is a New York-based performer, filmmaker, writer, and activist. She has toured internationally with celebrated theatre companies including The Wooster Group and The Builders Association, performing at venues such as the Brooklyn Academy of Music, the Barbican in London, and the Théâtre de la Bastille in Paris.
As a filmmaker, her documentary work has screened at Sundance, Berlinale, Tribeca, and SXSW, and aired on HBO, PBS, IFC, and Showtime. She is also co-founder of The Federation, a coalition of artists and organisations committed to keeping cultural borders open. Alongside her artistic practice, Selvaratnam is a published author and advocate whose writing has appeared in the New York Times, Vogue, and Elle. Her books on intimate violence and women's health have received widespread international media coverage. She holds a B.A. and M.A. in Chinese language and history from Harvard University.
