Todd Phillips

Profile

Todd Phillips (born 1970, USA) is an American film director, producer, and screenwriter known for his work in comedy films that blend psychological drama. He rose to prominence directing the blockbuster buddy comedy trilogy The Hangover before co-writing and directing the critically acclaimed Joker (2019), which won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival, and its sequel Joker: Folie à Deux (2024).

Phillips’ films often explore outsider characters and moral ambiguity, combining mainstream appeal with a darker, character-driven edge that has made him one of Hollywood’s most commercially successful contemporary directors.
