Whether you've been part of Welcome to Asbestos Hall from the very beginning or are only just now joining, the final day is one you won’t want to miss. Start your Sunday in a relaxed way with a brunch where poetry, film, and delicious food come together. 2025 associate artist Trajal Harrell will read a selection of poems and introduce the film Ryuichi Sakamoto | Opus. The brunch is provided by Nicky Kookt and features a variety of vegetarian and vegan dishes, made with organic ingredients.
On March 28, 2023, legendary composer Ryuichi Sakamoto passed away after a struggle with cancer. In the years leading up to his death, Sakamoto was no longer able to perform live. Individual concerts — let alone extensive world tours — had become too demanding. Nevertheless, in late 2022, Sakamoto summoned all his remaining strength to leave the world with a final performance: a concert film featuring only him and his piano. In this intimate journey through his life, Sakamoto performs twenty powerful piano pieces — from his pop era with Yellow Magic Orchestra to the meditative final album 12. A film that moves, silences, and pays tribute.
In 2021, Sakamoto was the associate artist of the Holland Festival, together with Franco-Austrian theatre maker Gisèle Vienne.
