Step into a night of pulsating energy, bold expression, and unfiltered creativity. Welcome to a Night in Asbestos Hall is a one-of-a-kind event curated in collaboration with curator Suzy Blok and Bar Bario. Known as a vibrant hub for BIPOC, queer, and trans communities, Bar Bario brings its spirit to Likeminds.
DJ-sets
The night is hosted by the magnetic MC Manny, whose fierce presence and unstoppable energy fuel every performance. Behind the decks, expect fire: New Kyd, also one of Trajal Harrell’s dancers, blends dance, sound, and visual media in a practice that explores identity, survival, and diasporic memory. New Kyd’s work is a refusal to be silenced – a call to reimagine survival as a dynamic, embodied resistance. DJ Noise Diva takes us on a deep, genre-blurring journey, equal bass-heavy and emotionally rich. YoungWoman delivers a high-voltage set packed with speed and surprise.
Performances
Throughout the night, performances unravel the body and challenge perception. In I find you leaking onto the flowers, Elsemarijn Hijweege evokes a fragmented world where bodies dissolve and reappear, transforming loss, crisis, and disappearance into intimate, life-affirming acts of presence. Elisa Zuppini’s The Knot entangles movement and sculpture in raw, erotic tension. In Anthology, Andreas Hannes explores the origins of skipping and examines its various applications throughout dance history – from folk dance to ballet, from club dance to hip-hop. He connects this expressive form of movement with yearly mash up anthologies of pop music in an innovative and exciting dance piece. House of Løstbois take the stage with drag king magic and resistance through joy. Robin Nimanong’s Fools merges ballroom, dance, and multimedia into a poetic protest of queer identity. Avantika Tibrewal challenges taste and acceptability with a performance that blurs the line between bold and “too much,” asking us to reconsider what is deemed acceptable, and by whom? What offends and why? Her unapologetic presence invites the audience to let go and dance. And Night Shift by Brecht Louwerens is a high-energy performance capturing the chaotic, surreal beauty of nightlife, with unexpected encounters, dancing, and escape.
Welcome to a Night in Asbestos Hall promises an evening where boundaries dissolve, genres melt, and bodies speak. Ecstatic, raw, intimate.
