Copyright information:JAN GATES

During this evening, you will explore both her groundbreaking music and her award-winning novel Split Tooth, a hybrid work that blends poetry, memoir, mythology, and coming-of-age storytelling into a powerful portrait of growing up as an Inuit girl in northern Canada. Winner of the 2019 Indigenous Voices Award for English Prose, Split Tooth was also longlisted for the 2018 Giller Prize and shortlisted for the 2019 Amazon.ca First Novel Award.

In this artist talk, hosted by performing artist, presenter, and creative entrepreneur Dionne Verwey, you will delve into Tagaq’s improvisational approach and her engagement with themes such as environmentalism, human rights, and postcolonialism. What happens when we listen beyond the limits of language? And how can voice, imagination, and sound help us envision new futures and new forms of Arctic Futurism?
