An exciting, rhythmic piece with Bolojo from Benin

The Beninese singer Zeynab Abib keeps the memory of West African Bolodjo singing and dancing alive with her inspired performances. Her strong, clear voice is accompanied by rhythmic percussion.

Zeynab Habib, who has a successful career as a popular music artist, and also performs in Mother Nature by associate artist Angélique Kidjo, is an unsurpassed Bolojo star as well.

The rhythms of traditional Bolojo are produced by an exciting percussion ensemble. The percussion forms the basis for the movements of a spiritual assembly of masked dancers, the Guêlêdê. This tradition has the women seeking the spirits’ favour.

Zeynab Abib sings in a strong, clear voice in the West African Yoruba language about peace, love and solidarity. In her performances, she mixes traditional rhythms, singing and dancing with electronic (modern) sounds. Because of this, she calls her performance ‘Bolojo Plus’.

Kidjo: 'This is the true Beninese music! The great drumming is unique to Benin! We saw her live with this Bolojo repertoire in the Stadium of Cotonou and it was amazing!'
