Archive 2001

This festival saw Theu Boermans making his debut as an opera director with Theo Loevendie’s opera Johnny & Jones about the downfall of a Jewish jazz duo during World War II. Furthermore, the programme extensively focussed on filmmaker Frank Scheffer, noise rockers Sonic Youth were present with two performances, and Boris Charmatz did no less than two performances, a workshop and an exhibition. The festival covered a lot of ground in terms of theatre, from Russia’s Boris Godunov (Declan Donnelan) to Argentinian marionettes (El Periférico de objetos). Festival director Ivo van Hove adapted Mean Streets into a performance where the audience was very close to the actors onstage.

Welcome!

Welcome to the Holland Festival archive! The history of our festival dates back to 1947. Through the programs of each festival edition we aim to tell this history here. Sadly some information is only available in Dutch but we aim to be as bilingual as possible. For additions or tips send an email to [email protected].
