Archive 2008

Cielo e Terra, heaven and earth, was the theme of the 2008 Holland Festival. Both in a literal sense, in terms of climate conditions and human relationships, and metaphysically. The festival opened with Samuel Beckett’s Happy Days, in which a woman is up to her waist in sand and sinking ever-deeper away, doomed to never sleep again. The festival concluded with La Pasión ségun San Marcos, an unconventional Latin-American passion play. The weeks between included an opera trilogy about Chinese heroines by Guo Wenjing, pieces by Emio Greco based on Dante’s Divina Comedia, a homage to composer Stockhausen, who died in December 2007 , and Quartett by Heiner Müller.

Welcome!

Welcome to the Holland Festival archive! The history of our festival dates back to 1947. Through the programs of each festival edition we aim to tell this history here. Sadly some information is only available in Dutch but we aim to be as bilingual as possible. For additions or tips send an email to [email protected].
